MACKAY ON LATEST JE MEETING
Highland Council (HC) still on target to get JE appeal
letters out to staff by September. UNISON asked that if, for any reason,
the letters were delayed that staff are told, so they know what is
happening

UNISON read
out legal advice just received on Essential Care Users status and allowance
(ECU) – in terms of any withdrawal of this allowance will constitute an
unlawful deduction of wages. HC indicated that this allowance will not be
retained after 1st September,
but will look at any information UNISON provide

TEC Service
standby allowance. It was noted that there may be a problem with the roll
out of the new standby allowance, and it was felt there was little
communication with staff, and it could be a safety risk. HC to take this
matter up

There is a
project board meeting to discuss the appeals on 2 September

There is
discussion with potential appeal panel chairs on Friday

HC wish 2
appeal panels running simultaneously, so more appeal are going through
-
HC working on
a frequently asked question list for appeals

The Service
Centre will be taking calls re appeals, with more complicated questions
being passed to back office staff

Trade unions
to be forwarded sample appeal letter and schedule

2,600 staff
appealed 1,900 jobs
